LEVI SIMPSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR

LEVI SIMPSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Levi is a father to three wonderful girls and husband to the love of his life, Shelley.  While a good chunk of his life has been spent on the prairies, BC is his home and he loves our city of Kelowna!  He graduated from Regent College in Vancouver in 2009 and spent 3 years teaching and serving as Academic Dean at Eston College, Saskatchewan before returning home, where he began working here as Associate Pastor in April of 2014.

He has long been seized by God’s grace and the call to serve His church, something that both excites and humbles him at the same time.  His passion is to educate the imagination of the Church with respect to who God is, how we experience him, and to understand what good works he has created us and equipped us to do in Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit (Eph 2.4-10).

MARCUS SCHMALING - YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS PASTOR

MARCUS SCHMALING - YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS PASTOR

Marcus is a follower of Jesus Christ. One sunny day he fell in love with Bethany when she threw a rock near a Blue Heron (that’s the girl for me!). Out of their love and marriage bloomed three boys, Elijah Christopher, Rafael Lorne, and Pascal Frederick. Marcus loves being a father, wrestling with his boys, and teaching them about this beautiful world God has made and is restoring! When he was young he played basketball, but now as an old man he enjoys tennis, God’s creation, reading, and the odd ping pong battle.

Marcus was first called to pastoral ministry during his Bachelors of Ministry at Prairie Bible College (1998-2002). This was only deepened during his three years of youth ministry in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and another four years of Bible training at Regent College in Vancouver, BC (MDiv, 2009). After 5 years of carpentry Jesus called him to raise up the next generation of Christ followers and he is loving the healthy, vibrant, and transformative student community that is developing at KGF!

CALEB MCALPINE - MUSIC MINISTRIES DIRECTOR

CALEB MCALPINE - MUSIC MINISTRIES DIRECTOR

Caleb is a son of God, a dedicated musician, and a husband to his beautiful, and extraordinary wife Lana McAlpine.

From his youngest memories in Winnipeg, to his many years of ministry with Youth With a Mission England, Caleb McAlpine has needed — and received — the grace of God in his life. Having set foot in 27 different nations (as both a servant of the gospel and as a performing musician), Caleb seeks to be increasingly aware of how God’s rich and diverse character makes itself known across cultural variance, language barriers, and generational differences. Seeing a church that makes room for people of all temperaments, backgrounds, and upbringings has been foundational for Caleb over the years.

Therefore, after moving to the Okanagan in Spring 2014, Caleb visited KGF for the first time and quickly discovered he had found a "home church". After a few years of volunteering with the church’s worship ministry, Caleb has since been given the chance to serve as the Director of Music Ministries at KGF — alongside a great, big church family that loves to worship. Eager to participate and connect, Caleb looks forward to the upcoming season of worship, teaching, and community at KGF.

BETHANY SMITH - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

BETHANY SMITH - ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Bethany felt called to ministry from an early age. During high school she worked as a Cabin Leader at Summer Bible Camp and as a Sunday School teacher during the rest of the year. In 2006, a year after her high school graduation, she left her home province of British Columbia behind and flew to the small town of Homer, Alaska, where she completed a Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The school was a turning point in Bethany's life and she remained in Alaska for two more years, serving as a missionary staff member on the YWAM base.

In 2011, Bethany felt called to study at Bible College. She graduated from Columbia Bible College in April 2014 with a Diploma in Biblical Studies. KGF was instrumental in this achievement, as the congregation supported her through love, encouragement, and bursaries.

Bethany joined the KGF staff in July 2014. When not in the Front Office, she enjoys cooking, running, and studying chemistry.

BETHANY SCHMALING - ADULT MINISTRIES ASSISTANT

Bethany and her husband, Marcus, love what God is doing at KGF church so much that they both work on staff! Born and raised in Kelowna, Bethany could be found on the soccer pitch or on the volleyball court, but now most of her extra time is spent raising their three beautiful boys in the ways of the world — Elijah, Rafael, and Pascal. She came to faith at an early age and fervently started following Jesus at Columbia Bible College as a young adult, where she studied outdoor education and counselling. She has since enjoyed shepherding young people in their faith and finding creative ways to make the Gospel come alive, through various leadership positions, experience in overseas Missions, and working in Children’s ministry at KGF. Her current position in the Adult Ministries world is right up her alley, and she loves what she gets to do.

KAREN HAUGEN - ADMIN ASSISTANT

KAREN HAUGEN - ADMIN ASSISTANT

I was born and raised in Fort St John in a loving Christian/Mennonite family. Growing up, I could always be found outside on a quad or with our animals. Attending a Bible Camp every summer instilled in me a desire to be part of a ministry in some way although I was unsure as to what that was going to look like.

After living in Australia for 6 months, I moved to Kelowna in April 2016 and constantly ask myself why it took me so long to move to this beautiful valley! Every weekend is filled with a new adventure, whether it is hiking, camping, hunting or soccer!  I look forward to my newest adventure at KGF Church serving and growing in my faith amongst a community that has made me feel at home since the moment I walked through the doors.

DEVAN SCOLLON - YOUTH INTERN

DEVAN SCOLLON - YOUTH INTERN

Devan was born and raised in the city of Langley. Every summer as a child he would attend Bible camp in the Okanagan and always dreamed of living here after experiencing the beautiful valley. It was at this Bible camp that he met his amazing fiancee and many of his close friends. Shortly after graduating high school, God gave him the opportunity to move to the Okanagan, and he has loved living here since. Playing volleyball at the beach with his friends is one of his favourite activities. He also enjoys reading, playing board games, and hiking the trails of Kelowna.

When Devan began attending KGF, he was welcomed into a kind, fun, and intentional community, that had a strong desire to make the love of Christ known to Kelowna. He soon began to serve in the Young Adult ministry and has since made many great friends there, including Pastor Marcus, with whom Devan quickly bonded over love for studying the Bible, youth ministry, and ping pong.

Devan has been serving in various youth and children's ministries consistently for the past six years and looks forward to be apart of the KGF team as the Youth Intern. He is very excited to help disciple the youth and to stir a passion for knowing God and seeking His kingdom.
