How to Do Devos

What Does Devotion Mean?
Devos
When we are passionately dedicated and loyal to someone or something, it is called devotion. Usually, when we are devoted to something, we spend significant time and energy focused on that person or thing.
Devotion is also understood to be religious passion, private prayer, worship, and other spiritual disciplines. We are showing devotion to God when we desire to spend time with Him.
When we devote our time, focus, and energy to praying and studying to be more like Jesus – we are demonstrating an act of devotion.
What are Daily Devotions?
Devos are a time set aside to grow in how you follow Jesus. To do that, we suggest a bit of preparation.
TIME: Decide when you will meet with Jesus daily. Each morning for a half hour is a great way to get started.
PLACE: Figure out where you will do your devos. Do you have a favourite sofa, or coffee shop, or park bench?
PLAN: You’ll want to know how you’re going to do your devos. We provide a reading guide and a journaling method to help with that.
Keeping a Journal
Whenever you will be most alert and least distracted. Jesus deserves your best attention! Make sure you have your Bible, a Journal, a Reading Plan, and a Pen.
WHEN should I do it?
HOW do I do it?
STEP 1
Find the Bible readings corresponding to today's date from the TWO-YEAR BIBLE READING PLAN in the back of your journal (or any Bible reading plan of your choosing). As you prepare to read, invite the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Mark off each daily reading as you complete it.
STEP 2
Grab your Journal and write your way through S.O.A.P.

S: Scripture
Look at the SCRIPTURE the Lord has impressed on you. Write it out.“Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Jude 21”
-
O: Observation
Investigate a key theme, lesson or promise that you have OBSERVED.
”Jude's letter is a warning against false teachers and leaders in the church who are after money and who live immoral lifestyles. Jude tells us that as believers we are to keep ourselves in the Spirit (Jude 20) and in God's love (Jude 21).” -
A: Application
Follow the Lord as he teaches you to APPLY what you have learned.“We still hear about many believers falling into greed and immorality. My response needs to be to press in closer to God's heart of love. His love is pure and holy, and the more I understand that, the more I will reflect that love. I will seek to walk daily, not by focusing on more rules and regulations, but by the Spirit's guidance to keep me from sin.”
-
P: Prayer
Engage with God in PRAYER in response to your learning“Dear Lord, thank you for your amazing love. Please help me hear and obey your Spirit's leading today. Help me understand and live in your love.”
